Maine Audubon is hiring seasonal On-call Environmental Educators to join its dynamic team based in Falmouth, ME. Since 1843, Maine Audubon has worked to conserve Maine wildlife and wildlife habitat by engaging people in education, conservation, and action.

Position Overview

We are seeking seasonal On-call Environmental Educators based out of Gilsland Farm Audubon Center in Falmouth, Maine, with some outreach programming in the greater Portland area.

On-call Environmental Educators are responsible for delivering science-based, experiential education programs for children ages 3-11. Hours vary from intermittent field trips and classroom visits to full-time work during school vacation camps; our on-call educators select the work opportunities that fit their availability. Our programs are designed to foster environmental literacy and build connection to the natural world in a fun, safe, and welcoming environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver developmentally-appropriate school and vacation camp programs tied to Maine Audubon’s mission;
  • Be able to communicate with and foster inclusive group dynamics for children ages 3-11;
  • Set-up and break-down program equipment daily/weekly;
  • Maintain safety standards and protocols, accident reports, participant medical forms;
  • Communicate professionally with teachers, caregivers, and families.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Experience and demonstrated ability working with children ages 3-11 in outdoor settings such as camp/environmental/experiential/outdoor education experience;
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching;
  • A./B.S. (or be working towards one) in education, biology, or environmental studies preferred;
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, and flexibility, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with others;
  • Knowledge of Maine’s flora, fauna, and ecological concepts;
  • Adult/Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification preferred;
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions

  • Able to often lift objects up to 50 pounds when setting up program space;
  • Able to frequently hike all trails on Gilsland Farm property as part of program;
  • Able to work outdoors in all environmental and weather conditions.

Benefits

Timing, Compensation, and Benefits
