About Us

Community Living Association is a private, nonprofit organization working to assist people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be independent, self-confident, and valued members of the community.

CLA is the second largest employer in Houlton and a leader in provision of developmental disability services in northern Maine. CLA provides day services such as work and training programs, along with a wide range of residential services, supported independent living, home supports, shared living, and community case management. CLA is proud of the quality of residential and support environments it has developed over the past 55 years.

CLA’s philosophy is that society benefits when all people have the same rights and privileges; and can be independent, grow to their fullest potential, participate fully in their communities, and live an unrestricted joyful life.

Mission Statement

The purpose of Community Living Association is to involve community and family in promoting the highest quality of life for people with developmental disabilities by assisting them to be independent, self-confident, and valued members of the community.
