About Us

Every year, we help 90 adults with developmental disabilities receive day and/or residential assistance. We employ over 85 people, and have 11 sites to support individuals in Camden, Rockport, Rockland, Owls Head, Hope, and Thomaston. Our primary service area is Knox County.

Mission Statement

Coastal Opportunities is a private, nonprofit corporation whose mission is to assist adults with developmental disabilities to become participating members of their social and economic community.

Working Here

Prospective staff members (full-time and part-time) for Coastal Opportunities must have the following qualifications:

  1. A high-school diploma or GED
  2. A valid Maine driver’s license

Staff members are scheduled to receive the following training within the first year of employment and must be recertified thereafter as indicated:

Direct Support Professional (45 hours of training comprising 14 different modules)—initial training only

  1. CPR and First Aid—American Heartsaver, every 2 years
  2. Crisis Prevention Intervention—annually
  3. Client Rights—annually
  4. Driver Safety—annually
  5. Fire Safety—annually
  6. Universal Precautions and Blood-Borne Pathogens—annually
  7. CRMA (for all staff who administer medications)—every 2 years
  8. Body Mechanics and Patient Handling—annually
  9. Note: Some positions may require more extensive training or qualifications.
