About Us

Bread of Life Ministries feeds the hungry, shelters the homeless, and provides services that help people change their lives and take personal responsibility. God calls us to minister to one another and assist those in need.

Bread of Life Ministries was started a generation ago by a handful of concerned and loving community members who were moved by the outstretched hands of those in need. In 1984, founder Carolyn Neighoff and seven families joined together to purchase 157 Water St. in Augusta, where our soup kitchen still serves today.

The ministry soon expanded to include a family shelter on Hospital Street, later a veteran’s shelter in the same location, now more than 80 apartment units across the city, case management services and a robust benevolence fund.

Bread of Life was born out of an important need to care for and love our neighbors. With the generous support of the community and the tireless efforts of volunteers and staff, the organization has eased the hardship of thousands. Over the course of an average year, our soup kitchen serves roughly 34,000 meals and our combined shelters provide about 13,000 bed days.
