Stay Away From The Glitter & Other Great Job Interview Makeup Tips

You know what to wear to an interview. You also know fifteen great job interview hairstyles for women. Now it’s time to go over job-interview-appropriate makeup. Yes, interview-appropriate makeup is a thing, and should be taken seriously. Your look is the first thing a hiring manager notices about you (yes, I’ve said this before and will continue to stress), and that includes your makeup choices as well. Have no fear fellow millennials, doing your makeup for a job interview can be as fun as doing your makeup for a night out on the town. Blast that music, dance around a little bit, and make yourself even more beautiful than you already are with these great makeup tips courtesy of PopSugar and Glamour.

Eyes

Close-up Blue Eyes

  • It can be tempting to want to use false eyelashes thinking that they would enhance your eyes. Don’t do it. Please promise me you won’t. The office is not the place for false eyelashes. Stick to using mascara to enhance your natural eyelashes.
  • Kimberly Soane, director of artistry for Bobbi Brown, shares the key to separating and lengthening lashes: “roll the wand as you apply the mascara from base to tip.” This will help avoid clumps, and let your eyelashes look naturally long.
  • Eye shadow is great, but stay in neutral tones. Urban Decay’s Naked Palette is always a safe bet.
  • As beautiful as a smoky eye can look, keep the eyeliner to a minimum in the workplace.

Lips

  • I have my stash of lip glosses too, but I leave them at home and stick to lipstick. Lip-gloss comes off as juvenile; think about it – shiny, glossy lips is not the most professional.
  • Pale pinks and neutral colors are your best bets when it comes to lipstick. T-Swift is the only one who can get away with a red lip in the office, since her office is a concert stage. Unsure of what neutral lip colors are? Here are Harpers Bazaar’s favorites for inspiration.

Face

  • No one’s perfect. We all get the occasional pimple or blemish. Be sure to use a concealer that matches your skin tone to avoid looking blotchy or uneven.
  • Contouring and highlighting are not necessary. Save that for nighttime fun, not the office.
  • Most people can benefit from using (small amounts) of bronzer or blush, just don’t overdo it.

Nails

Luxury fashion style, manicure, cosmetics and make-up

  • Make sure your nails are manicured; they should all be clean and even, painted one single color. I know how fun it is to have the party nail, but save that for an actual party.
  • Contrary to popular belief, a French manicure is not necessary. As long as your nails are one solid color that is not neon, you’re good to go.

Fragrance

  • Lay off the perfume. Your natural, freshly cleaned smell is perfect. Not only do you not want to distract your boss with a strong fragrance, but you never know what someone may be allergic to.

Our mothers have been telling us we’re natural beauties our entire lives, and now is the time to embrace this. Workplace-appropriate makeup should look natural. You shouldn’t look as though you have makeup on. Less actually is more. Stay away from glitter and sparkles, and save those for nighttime fun. Go ahead, the next time you get that 20% off coupon for Sephora for being a VIB, use it on neutral, office-appropriate tones.
